Monroe County Names New Animal Services Shelter Director

Monroe County has officially named Becky Gifford the Monroe County Animal Services Shelter Director.

County Manager Jim Hedges said Gifford, who has served as the county’s interim Shelter Director for the past three months, had the interim label officially removed from her title earlier this week.

Gifford began working for Monroe County Animal Services as an administrative assistant in July 2019. She was born in Detroit, Mich. but raised in Clearwater Beach, Fla. and considers herself a Floridian. Gifford, who is married to husband Chad, moved to Monroe County in 2011 and was a stay-at-home mother to her two daughters, Parker, 20, and Piper, 15, and one son, Holden, 16, prior to being hired by the county.

Gifford replaces Dawn Kennedy, who had filled the role of Shelter Director for about 10 months before stepping down in February.
